Technique of the Month:
Dry Embossing Vellum

This is a technique that is very easy, takes only a couple of tools, and is guaranteed to get ooohs and ahhhhs.

   Supplies: Vellum
   A Dry Embossing Stylus
A mouse pad, piece of fun foam, or other thin soft surface
Stamped or printed images that you would like to emboss

       1. On a scrap piece of print paper stamp the image that you would like to transfer and emboss onto your vellum:

       2. Place your stamped/printed paper onto your mouse pad or soft surface.
       3. Place your piece of vellum over top of your paper.
       4. Using the stylus press lightly and trace over your image. Tracing over the image will transfer it
onto the vellum by leaving an indent in the paper.

       5. Once you have traced the entire image, turn over the vellum. You should have the outline of the image
raised in white on your vellum.

TIP: If you press too hard on the vellum it will tear. It may help the stylus to glide over the vellum more easily if you rub it across some waxed paper or across the side of a candle first.

If you wish to add more dimension and detail to your dry embossed image you can fill the vellum back over and use the stylus to "colour in" different areas of the image. This will create solid white raised areas on the front of the vellum.

If you wish to add colour to your embossed image you can colour the vellum with markers or chalks on the "wrong" side. This will give you a mute colour through the vellum.
You can also use a sponge or cotton ball and dust chalk over the raised image on the good side of the vellum. The raised areas will grab the colour.

This technique is especially beautiful for Holiday Greeting Cards. 'Tis the season - try it!! You’ll love the results.
